| Over the years, many photos have been lost showing Gary's Dad holding him on horseback and on the International Harvester "M" tractor built the same year Gary was born. But luckily this photo of Gary's pony (right) and the family picture of his Dad's trick white/grey mares (below) remain. |

The grey mares left a lasting impression. Gary searched for the last several years to find a grey horse to fulfill his boyhood dreams of owning a grey horse. There were many available over the last decade, but none had the look or were buckskin based--that is another story. |
Then along came MARANA THUNDER...
Bred by Marilyn Van Der Wekken of DM Morgans in Picture Butte, Alberta, Canada, this rare and unusual treasure was foaled in early April of 2010 and quickly became the talk of colorful breeders everywhere. His beauty and refinement, wonderfully kind disposition and excellent Morgan breed type made him a standout in his colorful community. When he was born, the colt's color was like the lighter grey color of a thunder storm.
The second part of a thunder storm is how things seem to change for the better. The future will tell the story of Thunder's possible "Unique, Rare gaited grey offspring". Thunder is a rare buckskin-based grey, Aa, Ee, Gg and N/Cr. What does this mean? Read on...
Aa - Horse tested heterozygous for Agouti. Black pigment distributed in point pattern. The horse can transmit either A or a to its offspring. The basic color of the horse will be bay or brown unless modified by other color modifying genes.
Ee - Both black and red factors detected. The horse tested heterozygous for the red factor. It can transmit either E or e to its offspring. The basic color of the horse will be black, bay or brown unless modified by other color modifying genes.
Gg - Both the normal and Grey alleles were detected. Horse tested heterozygous for Grey and has a 50% chance of producing an offspring that will go grey as well.
N/cr Cream dilution.
